The Vastness of Nature

A poem on dreams, nature, and humanity.

Whisper me sweet songs
Of benevolence in Nature
Sweep me off my feet
Like times we dreamed were greater
Take me to that place
I no longer believe in
Where time stands still
And love can begin;
Anew--freed of shackles
Freed of pain
Exquisitely ambitious
Untainted by disdain
Encourage me to try cuisine
So otherworldly human
A palate purely devoted
To those of us in ruin
Take me to that sacred place
Where you and I are one
Transcending what it means
To finally be done

It's about love, it's about pain. It's about vanity, it's about sane. It's letting go of ego. It's about trying to be free; it's about being who you should be.
As always, it comes to me in waves. I'll get inspiration from a book, a tree, a little spider. And then the words come to me and I need to write them down as quickly as possible.
It's almost like these words are coming back to me from a distance time and place.
I was reading a Michael Pollan book about Psilocybin and he mentioned how, in one of his trips, that he felt so connected to the nature around him; the nature he's been around his whole life. And yet, until now, he could never appreciate it the way he was in the moment, being present. Maybe it's just the drugs, who knows, but it was interesting to relate nature to a benevolent force that loves its human counterparts. There's no judgement, just being.
It was intriguing to me, and it ultimately comes back to how we're all interconnected. We are all one. It's such a profound concept that, maybe you can only experience on a "magic mushroom" but nonetheless, it's not as far away as we tend to think.
